If you love outdoor adventures and lesser known trails, then you’re going to fall in love with Wyoming. We spent a month road tripping here and found that some of our favorite hikes in Wyoming are outside the National Parks. This blog will include some of the best trails in and out of the parks in Wyoming so you can get the most out of your trip.
When is the best time to visit Wyoming?
Wyoming has a short window for hiking. Ideally, you want to go when the snow is completely melted in the higher elevation areas. The best months for this will be June-August.

Best Hikes in Wyoming (In Grand Teton National Park)
Delta Lake
One of my favorite hikes in Grand Teton National Park is this stunning glacial fed lake right below the Teton Peaks. One of the biggest draw to this hike is the stunning emerald or turquoise color of the lake. It’s rated hard on AllTrails because it’s all uphill with the most difficult & steepest part at the last mile. It’s definitely worth it though and if you go on a warm day you have to take a dip!
Mileage: 7.5
Elevation gain: 2,296 ft
Jenny Lake
For an easy day, I would recommend checking out Jenny Lake. It’s just a short walk from the parking lot and dogs are actually allowed on the paved trail. Even though it’s easy to access, the views are still incredible.
Mileage: 7.5 for the whole loop
Elevation gain: 728 ft
Phelps Lake
Phelps Lake is a great moderate hike in Grand Teton National Park. The best part though, is the jumping rock you’ll reach about an hour into your hike. This is a fun way to spend a summer day swimming and mingling with other tourists and locals.
Best Hikes in Wyoming (Outside of the National Parks!)
Sacred Rim
We did this hike during sunset and was absolutely mind blown by how epic it was for how little effort it took to get there. This hike is located in Pinedale which is about an hour and a half from Jackson so it’s a great place to go if you want to avoid the crowds. The reward of this hike are expansive views of the Wind River peaks and long lake.
Mileage: 3.3
Elevation gain: 554 ft
Green River Lake
A bit hard to reach but totally worth it if you’re willing to drive the 20 mile dirt road in. This road is not challenging to drive and does not require any special vehicle but it is a very long stretch of dirt. If you like camping and fishing, there are also lots of free camping in this area making the drive worth while. This hike is one of my favorites during our trip to Wyoming. We hardly came across anyone and the views are even better than what we’ve seen in the park.
Mileage: 7.7
Elevation gain: 633 ft
