Where Is Scottsdale?
Scottsdale is located in Arizona, within the Sonoran Desert. It’s part of the Phoenix metropolitan area, and only around seven miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).
To get to Scottsdale, fly into the closest major airport in Phoenix and take a cab or Uber to your hotel.
There is an airport in Scottsdale, but it serves only public and private jet charter services.

Best Things to Do in Scottsdale This Weekend
A weekend isn’t enough time to see and do all there is in Scottsdale, but you can tick the top activities and attractions off your list. Here are my picks of fun things to do in Scottsdale.
1. Hike to Stunning Desert Views
Hiking in Scottsdale is non-negotiable. Desert landscapes, towering Saguaro cacti, rugged hills, and sweeping views of the valley await on the Pinnacle Peak Trail.
The Tom’s Thumb Trail is one of the most popular treks in Scottsdale, climbing through switchbacks to an iconic granite boulder.
Take a guided hiking adventure on this trail and enjoy the desert beauty without a map.
2. Lift Off on a Sunrise Hot Air Balloon Ride
There are very few extraordinary ways to start the day that beat a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Sonoran Desert.
Depart before sunrise, and float over the cacti-filled desert as the morning light shines through.
After this exhilarating experience, you’ll enjoy a sparkling cider or champagne toast and a preset breakfast at the landing site as the proverbial cherry on top.

3. Explore Old Town’s Foodie + Shopping Spots
Old Town is the beating heart of Scottsdale.
It’s where the city converges, and everything is on offer, from museums and art galleries to local shops, fantastic eateries, pubs, bars, you name it.
There are plenty of things to do in Old Town Scottsdale. Take an exploration tour via a Segway to get a glimpse of it all, including Rusty Spur Saloon, Old Adobe Mission, and the waterfront.
Or if you’d like to eat your way through the city center, opt for a foodie tour through Old Town for a mouthwatering experience.
From handcrafted pizza and hearty pasty to sweet treats and cookies, followed by tacos and tequila, you’ll have a full day of great, belly-filling moments.

4. Get Dusty on a Desert Jeep Adventure
You cannot go to Scottsdale without having at least one desert experience.
Go on an ultimate off-road adventure in a Jeep and explore the Sonoran Desert like never before. Spot the region’s flora and elusive wildlife while learning about its Native American history.
You’ll also drive through the Tonto National Forest before passing by the summit at Pinnacle Peak.
5. Ride Through the Desert on Horseback
There are many ways to explore the desert, but none are as romantic as on horseback.
Scottsdale is layered, and a slow ride through the landscape is a great way to peel them off.
This horseback riding tour is one of the best things to do in Scottsdale, Arizona. It takes you to a pretty country estate where you’ll see the facilities, meet your horse, saddle up, and set off into nature.
Afterward, you’re welcome to enjoy extras, like high tea, a barbecue, or grilled lunch.
6. Explore Cosanti Originals for Local Art, Bells & Hands-On Workshops
Experience the height of Scottsdale’s love for art at Cosanti Originals.
Serving as architect Paolo Soleri’s residence until his passing, the site is a masterful body of work.
It’s dotted with intricate artworks, structures, and dwellings that you won’t see anywhere else.
Learn about Soleri’s life and craft through a guided tour of the design studio and a live bronze pour, if the weather permits.
7. Share a Sunset Moment at Taliesin West (With a Glass in Hand)
There is no better place to watch the sunset with a glass in hand than at Taliesin West.
Their happy hour event is a far cry from the typical ones you find at bars or restaurants. It offers a friendly atmosphere for chatting and connecting, with stunning city views as a backdrop.
Where to Eat During Your Weekend in Scottsdale
Your Scottsdale travel experience won’t be complete without indulging in a few local delights.
Here are some of my top suggestions for places to eat and be merry during your weekend trip.
COURSE Restaurant
COURSE is easily one of the best fine dining restaurants in Scottsdale. I tried their 8-course dinner and was so impressed that I would go back any day.
Their cocktails were also super creative. Their reservation hours are 5 pm to 9 pm, making it a prime spot for dinner dates.

The Mission
This is a local favorite, with two locations in Kierland and Old Town. The Mission serves up modern Latin cuisine, made with ingredients you won’t find elsewhere.
Their roasted pork shoulder tacos and beef anticuchos were to die for; I’m still drooling over these dishes.

Talavera
Tucked within the walls of the Four Seasons, Talavera serves up a storm. It’s a modern Spanish steakhouse, where bold, traditional Latin flavors are brought to life.
If you’re looking for something to try, I loved their seafood paella. Sit indoors or outdoors for beautiful views.

Toca Madera
Toca Madera is a super aesthetic restaurant with equally great food!
I loved all the dishes I got from the raw bar; there were oysters, ceviche blanco, sashimi Mexicano, and more.
But there’s plenty on the menu to arouse all senses. They also serve a lovely mix of cocktails and tacos.
